The black Okavango triangles serve both functional and symbolic roles, representing Wakanda’s connection to the earth and its technological prowess. Subtle circuit-like patterns enhance the suit’s aesthetic while reinforcing the unity of Wakanda’s people. My Contribution
Collaborating with Ruth E. Carter, the Academy Award-winning Costume Designer for Wakanda Forever, was an incredible experience. My focus was on the surface design of the Black Panther suit along with the Midnight Angels, Okoye, and Nakia submersible suit ensuring that every texture and pattern aligned with the film’s artistic vision.
The Creative Process
Material Selection: I worked alongside fabricators to choose high-tech materials that would not only replicate the sleek vibranium surface but also maintain flexibility for action sequences.
Surface Design & Textures: I developed intricate geometric patterns and textures to seamlessly integrate Wakandan culture and advanced technology, while ensuring the design was practical for filming.
Collaboration with Fabricators: Partnering with Film Illusions Inc. and Key Specialty Customer Federico Cervantes, we combined traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to bring the design vision to life.
Through this collaboration, the suit’s design balanced cultural authenticity with the physical demands of the character, creating a powerful visual statement within the world of Wakanda.
